VP Debate
Wed Oct 6 2004 10:39 MDT #I watched the last half of the VP debate last night - it was good. I agree with this real poll and most of the informal online polls, Edwards won. Mainly by being a nice guy but not a push over. It got pretty spiky, the elbows came out and some barbs were exchanged but Edwards held his own against Cheney, the Bush campaign's official pit bull. And he did it while keeping with loosing his nice guy image.
I'd also say they where both pretty impressive and as the New York Times points out this didn't hurt Edwards presidential aspirations. He made no Quayle style gaffs, and as a matter of fact he kept his eye on the ball. He seemed to be incapable of not mentioning Kerry, while Cheney pretty much never mentioned the president. The contrast was a little creepy.
The last thing I noted was that 12 year age gap seemed more like 25 years. Edwards seemed young, energetic, full of life. Cheney seemed none of those things. I worry a lot more about Cheney living through the 4 years than about Edwards being a capable President.
