Demo Day at Santa Fe
Sat Dec 18 2004 19:11 MST #So today was a telemark demo day at Santa Fe Ski area, Sangre De Cristo was hosting and Atomic, K2, Black Diamond and G3 had skis and booths, We skied from 9 - 3:30 tried out 4 skis each. Rachel also tried out some scarpa boots which where probably the hit of the day. I rode the BD ethic, the Atomic TMX, the G3 'The Ticket' which being brand new an different was probably the most talked about ski of the day, and finished up with a singe run on the apppropriatly named, for my newly unemployed self, Work Stinx.
The Ethic has had some great reviews but being the first ski up for the day, I was merely different -- the G3 rep said it was great fun at speed -- something I didn't really try out that early in the day. The TMX was billed as ultra-stable - and it was, and it was fun for me for that reason. The Ticket has an asymetrical cut which is supposed to make it carve well -- for me it did carve well in the end but took me a run or 2 to warm up to, probably because it was the widest ski I'd ever ridden in addition to having the odd cut. It took a little learning but was great fun in the end. Last up we snuck in one last run on the Work Stinx - fat, and a little shorter than what I'd been riding they were fun, and snappy turners -- for this run Rachel was riding the "Dawn Patrol" which where the flowery girl version of this same ski -- she had the same impression.
On the whole a great day -- got to actually get a feel for what the differences in the ski really are. And as an added bonus my legs are still in fine shape -- I could go for another day tomorrow - the first time I could say that. A good thing as well because Rachel wants to go up to Taos tomorrow which is the double wammy of a telemark demo day with Toas Mountain Outfitters + our weekly telemark clinic.
A lot of skiing is getting fit in .....
