End of the Trip

Sun Sep 25 2005 05:17 MDT #

Since we left Istanbul Thursday morning, we spent thursday on Gozo, the smaller major island in Malta, then caught the ferry to Sicily. Friday morning we caught a bus to Syracusa, and then we spent a couple of thoroughly plesant days beating around. Today we caught a bus back the the ferry town, Pozzallo, where I'm typing this outside of a closesd computer shop that has a pay wifi zone. After the ferry back to Malta we catch a 4am flight to London, and hopefully a flight to Houston, and from there to ABQ. Then we drive to LA to pick up Thor, and then home and to bed ......

Yesterday afternoon we caught a cab out, and bus back from the Western districts -- which in spite of being inside the city walls are still quite a ways out, and saw the mosiac museum. Which was really just an amazingly well preserved church -- but it was AMAZING, These pictures should give you an indication of how amazing .....

We made it to Istanbul. At 4:30 A.M. - with no sleep. The flight was 2 hours long, with a time zone change taking off at like 1. They kept the lights on. And they served a MEAL. And kept making pointless announcements -in english malti and italian. No Sleep For YOU!.

Anyhow I was freaking useless. We could not get the pay phones to work. I seem to have lost the cell. We where like trapped by our uslessness till 6am -- which was about 1/2 hour after we bought a 5$ tall americano. At that point we decided to cab it too the hotel regardless. When we arrived at the Best Western. -- the very closed Best Western. But a kind kind gentleman taking a very early stroll -- told us to bang on the door. We did And the very nice counter staff got up and checked us in.

And then we got some sleep....

Malta

Tue Sep 13 2005 08:31 MDT #

We've made it to Malta - after a very very long plane ride, interuppted by a few very very plesant hours in London. Malta is hot - and old - and largley being replaced with apartment blocks. The hotels is very very nice. The Capital, Valletta - is pretty amazing, quite a bit more fun than the Clubbing district of Paceville that the hotel is in --- though clearly Paceville is the draw for most of the huge tourist population here :)

The picture is from the Valletta gardens - on the city walls over looking the Grand Harbour.

B-Day

I turned 30 on Wednesday - which was depressing as it came on but was actually ok. And was a very good day indeed. It Job went well that day. Rachel Made her insane chocolate cake. We had a fab dinner at Cafe Pasquals. And I got tons of cool presents - A super deluxe brew kit - with absolutely everything, a Amazon gift cert, a subscription to Make and to Cook Illustrated, and a ma cha wisk! And more even - it was quite a haul, and quite a day. Good in just about every way.
