Kittens

Wed Mar 30 2005 10:56 MST #

So it has been an interesting Kitten week, on many fronts.

A couple of weeks ago we started training them - using dehydrated salmon treats, this is working well and Thor now sits ! Which rocks. He'll probably understand 'down' by the time pounce has got sit :).

Thor also has a collar on and and has all week! A record (we've been blowing through collars). Now we dream of using a lead, pounce on a collar. And the ultimate goal of BELLS!

Of course bells are the ultimate goal because they are hunting way to well. Yesterday we had a live , basically uninjured bird that pounce brought in - at around 7.30 in the am. And then Thor brought in a rodent that I had to kill last night. I want bells!.

And finally the most stressful bit - they are staying out too late. We're going to have to impose a nightfall curfew on them. 2 nights ago something was up with the cars and they where rocketing up and down the street. And there where a couple of stay dogs running about. Anyhow Thor didn't come home - and we finally found him across the street -- when he meowed at us to come get him. Then last night pounce didn't come home till after 10pm, an hour and a half late. It's curfew time.

OpenSearch

Tue Mar 29 2005 13:05 MST #

Oh, my a9 just released opensearch. It is insanely cool. It just eliminates all the problems with distributed searches. Deep web searches, aggregated searches. If you have a search engine and can write an RSS feed, you can drop your engine in a9. People can drag and drop it to there search page. And you are done.

Of course it's also open -- you can add others sites to your search engine -- it is truly open search. This solves so many problems it is insane.

BTW: a9 is my current default engine. It uses google and has some other nice engines (such as CPAN Search) :) . But what I love is that my search history is tracked -- and if I do a search 2x it's clear which sites I visited (this is toolbar/history muckery -- but still handy).

Culinary Entry

During last weeks massive snow I made snow ice cream, and Rachel apparently had the first snow ice cream of her life. She led a deprived childhood :)

The basic recipe is snow, powdered sugar, and vanilla to taste. (fake vanilla extract tastes better than real vanilla extract -- the real extract is required by law to have more alcohol and less vanillin than is desirable) . Add enough milk/cream to get the desired texture. Do it all fast as the snow melts and messes with the texture. Freezes Ok, but it is better eaten fresh.

Yumm!

Weekend

Sun Mar 20 2005 10:49 MST #

This weekend Mike & Heather came out for a Ski weekend. Yesterday we went to Taos. It was a pretty great. There were a couple of inches of fresh snow, and the base was nice. The temperature was excellent, warm but not above freezing. I had an amazing day mainly on the bumps. Lots and Lots of fun. Everyone else had a great time as well although I might have had the best.

Afterwards we went to Pizza Out Back which was a new find for Rachel and I and a good bit of fun. And a good bit of pizza.

As far as ski weekends go this one is going well !

Snow Day !!!

Mon Mar 14 2005 09:22 MST #

In more senses than one.

It is dumping out there. Inches of snow in the sunny Espaņola valley. Nutty. But cool. Very cool a s we where a tad bit worried about Mike and Heather's plan for a ski weekend next weekend. It was Icy out a t taos yesterday. But now there is Pow!. Super Uber Cool.

Plus in another freak super uber cool bit of snow news, the lab decided that the conditions out there where to ugly and called a snow day. I've never worked for place that's done that.

Ski Weekend

Fri Mar 11 2005 10:51 MST #

Last Thursday Liam came out for a ski weekend and we all piled into the Audi and headed up to Pagosa Springs. We spent Friday and Saturday skiing at Wolf Creek, and recovering at the hot springs by our hotel, the Springs Resort.

Unfortunately Rachel was feeling under the weather, and spent only a half day skiing and all the rest of of the time recovering. The recovering was frankly was quite pleasant -- I hadn't expected to enjoy the springs so much. Of course she was feeling substantially worse than I, and I think she got a little tired of the sulfur smell by the end of the weekend.

Liam and I spent a good bit of time riding the Alberta lift, (map). And had a LOT of fun the second day running up and down abracadabra (?) and the waterfall area.

On the whole a great little break. I'm already looking forward to next year :)

My sister got Married!

Tue Mar 8 2005 11:39 MST #

This Sunday, my sister got married, in Girdwood AK. The ceremony was outside, with a couple of close friends and both our parents and Jamie's. It was pretty, and personal. A friend preformed the ceremony, and Buck and Luna, the dogs, were the ring bearer and flower girl respectively. I wish I could have been there. Ah well, that's how it goes.

Congratulations Brooke and Jamie !!
