EVEN by its own disturbing standards, this was a hallucinatory week in Iraq. Beheadings, kidnappings, bombings, outbreaks of deadly disease and everyday mayhem were accompanied by interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's upbeat statement to Congress: "We are succeeding in Iraq."

That reminds me of this:
By any reasonable standard, the White House has a mind-boggling record of incompetence in Iraq, from the lack of post-war planning to the disgrace of Abu Ghraib.
...
The more Mr Bush repeats his mantra about the march of liberty, the more he risks sounding like a Texan version of "Comical Ali",the Iraqi propaganda minister who declared that the infidel dogs were in retreat even as American troops rolled into Baghdad.

The Autonomist Manifesto
An interesting article. Some good stuff about congestion charges. And about
people actually loving the suburbs. The article argues those who like
cities are in a minority - fine. But when an article that takes potshots
at Portland's livability, well something is really wrong. When you start
arguing against the livability of Portland, you are
arguing that even the best cities aren't livable. But the article doesn't
stop there, the last page is straight up anti-city. Clearly some people, shall we say a large percentage of New York Times readers,
like living in cities. Arguing for cars is not where I am, but taking that
to the point of arguing against cities, well you've left your point, and you've left rationality.
