Mapping and the Net
Sat Aug 28 2004 13:38 MDT #Long ago I found Terraserver which produces beautiful aerial photograph of places like this one of Uwajimaya, in Seattle's International District. (That's Paul Allen's Union Station to the left). But frankly it was a pain to use.
Earlier today I was pointed to Geocoder.us and the associated Geo::Coder::US modules. This has great potential. Particularly when tied with Terraserver and potentially:
- Photo Mapping ?
- Tagging the net to Geography
- This guy who maps his bike rides using GPS and Perl. Very nice animated maps which I can't find.
There is probably something good in here. And the tools are starting to look nice, and usable. But usable for what? So far all I can think of "Where in the world is Rachel", but unfortunately the perlmods are US only. Still there is something here.
